The Appleby Spotlight

 

Every few weeks we shine a spotlight on two members of Appleby's community taken from its traders, artisans, local organisations a service providers.

 
   
             

From small beginnings in 1994, Penrith & District Red Squirrel Group became a registered charity in 2006. Volunteers and supporters play a real part in the group helping the red squirrel in all sorts of ways.

   

The Golden Ball is an oldie worldie down to earth real ale type of pub in an atmospheric 18th century building found down a narrow medieval street called High Wiend but known as 'The Wiend' when the pub was first built.

 
             

Tastes of Eden isn't just a cafe, you can buy a really good ground coffee to take home. They make delicious homemade cakes and bakes without any artificial colours or preservatives and use only good quality, locally sourced ingredients, leaving a great natural taste.

   

If you are interested in learning more about the arts, or in helping us conserve our heritage, or just want to make new friends who also enjoy fascinating lectures, visiting galleries and interesting days out, then The Arts Society might be for you. They holds lectures throughout the year.

 
             

One would be underestimating this little gem on Boroughgate if you were to pass it by thinking it wouldn't have something for you. It is without question worth spending time getting to know, not least for opportunity to engage in conversation with Shirley.

   

Polly is a yoga teacher in Appleby. She holds Vinyasa Flow and Yin yoga classes in Appleby Hub . She has practiced yoga for most of her adult life and decided to become a teacher taking the internationally recognised Yoga Alliance training in Israel.

 
             

This is the work of Andrew Walker from Long Marton. Andrew is a woodturner who is a regular exhibitor at the Hubcraft Craft Fair He makes beautiful hand made items from sustainable timber.

   

Pets Pantry is a wonderfully welcoming place. If your not a pet owner don't make the mistake of not visiting Wendy's shop. There are plenty of hungry ducks and squirrels to feed and Pets Pantry has just the right food for them.
