Sheila Ross remembers shopping as a 10 year old in Appleby in the 1940s when thinly sliced ham was neatly wrapped in grease-proof paper in Graham Family Grocers.

 

In 1618 Lady Anne Clifford wrote in her diary saying, "The colour of mine eyes were black, like my father, and the form and aspect of them was quick and lively, like my mother’s; the hair of my head was brown and very thick, and so long that it reached to the calf of my legs when I stood upright"
